New Animation Confirms Velma as Queer and Character Receives Tribute From Google
The new Scooby-Doo Halloween special has a teaser that shows Velma completely in love with the villain Coco Diablo.
Although it is not news to fans who have been speculating about the character’s sexuality for years, the video comes to make it official: Velma Dinkley is part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

As a form of homage, when we search for the character’s name on Google, a shower of LGBTQIA+ flags falls, coloring and decorating the results feed.
Other attempts to “bring the character out of the closet”
Director and screenwriter, James Gunn had already stated on his Twitter that, initially, Velma would be a lesbian in the live-action Scooby-Doo released in 2001.
However, Warner Bros. ended up changing this arc and giving the character a boyfriend in the 2002 sequel.
