Scream 7 Confirmed, New Director Announced

In a subtle way, the director of Freaky (2020) and Happy Death Day 1 and 2 announced on his Twitter profile (X) that he will be directing the seventh film in the Scream franchise.

In a post made this Wednesday (02), Cristopher Landon says that “7 really is the lucky number”, accompanied by a photo of the beloved killer of the slasher world, Ghostface.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the directors responsible for the 2022 and 2023 films will only be involved in the sequel as executive producers, as they are involved in other projects.

The sixth film in the franchise premiered in March of this year and grossed around $168,834,132 worldwide, solidifying Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as the new final girls of cinema.

There is not much information released about the sequel yet, but we should expect a deeper look into the psychopathy of the character Sam Carpenter, since she was prominent in the most recent film.

On his Twitter, 24 hours after the announcement, Landon thanked fans for their support and promised to make directors Wes Craven, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin proud.

For fans, it remains to be seen what innovation the new director will bring to the game.
