Hollywood In Crisis | Actors’ Strike Is About To Become Reality

The deadline for renegotiations between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-Aftra) came to an end on July 12.

In a statement, president Fran Drescher and negotiations director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said that “despite our team’s dedication to advocating on your behalf, the AMPTP has refused to acknowledge that the enormous changes in the industry and economy have had a negative impact on those who work for the studios.”

According to the statement, although they are open to negotiations, they were unable to reach a fair agreement. Therefore, there will be a vote among the national board to begin the strike by Hollywood actors and actresses.

The vote is scheduled to take place at 1:00 p.m. Brasília time (9:00 a.m. PST), and a press conference is expected to take place around 4:00 p.m. to announce the results.

There is no concrete data on the impact of the actors’ strike on the film industry, but there is speculation about major delays, shutdowns and even early cancellation of shows and films.

It is worth remembering that the writers’ strike has not yet come to an end, so if SAG-Aftra declares a strike, the two largest sectors for new productions will be completely paralyzed.
